Ingredients

1/2 cup toor dal
1/4 cup red ripe tomato
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon asafoetida powder
1 tablespoon ghee or 1 tablespoon oil
3 green chilies
curry leaf
salt and pepper
1 lime , juice of ( optional )

Instructions

1.Cook the toor dal in a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water until soft.
2.In a blender, blend the tomato, green chilies, and curry leaf until smooth.
3.In a pan or pot, heat the ghee or oil on medium heat and add the mustard seeds and asafoetida powder.
4.When the mustard seeds start to splutter, add the tomato mixture and cook for 5-7 minutes until the raw smell disappears.
5.Add the turmeric powder and mix well.
6.Add 3 cups of water, salt, and pepper.
7.Bring the mixture to a boil and add the cooked toor dal. Mix well and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes until the flavors are well combined.
8.Add lime juice if desired and serve hot.
