Ingredients

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 1 tablespoon orange extract or 1 tablespoon creme de menthe
red food coloring ( looks nicer with it ) ( optional )
1/2 cup chopped roasted pistachios ( add along with your choice from above ) ( optional ) or 1/2 cup almonds ( add along with your choice from above ) ( optional )
1 1 cup granulated sugar or 1 cup desiccated coconut , for dusting ( 1 c equals 250 ml )

Instructions

1.In a large saucepan, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, water, and cream of tartar.

3.Once boiling, reduce heat to low and continue to cook for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thick and translucent.
4.Stir in the orange extract or creme de menthe and food coloring, if using.
5.Pour mixture into a greased 8-inch square pan and sprinkle with chopped pistachios or almonds.
6.Allow to cool at room temperature for 4-6 hours, until set and firm.
7.Cut into squares and dust with granulated sugar or desiccated coconut.
8.Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
