Ingredients

1 can kidney beans ( or your preference )
4 ounces tomato sauce
1 tablespoon sofrito sauce ( see my recipe for it , or buy Goya store bought )
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 envelope sazon goya , powder
1 cup water
diced ham ( optional )
6 -10 pitted green olives ( optional )
Habichuelas guisadas, or Puerto Rican stewed beans, is a classic comfort food often served with white rice. Instructions

1.In a large pot, heat up the olive oil over medium heat.
2.Add the sofrito sauce and saute for 2-3 minutes.
3.Add tomato sauce, sazon goya, and water. Mix well.
4.Add the beans and olives. Mix well.
5.Add diced ham if using.
6.Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
7.Serve hot on top of white rice or with crusty bread.
