Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil
2 onions , finely chopped
2 carrots , finely chopped
2 celery ribs , finely chopped
1 turnip , finely chopped
3 garlic , gloves crushed
2 bay leaves
2 fresh thyme sprigs
1 smoked ham hock ( about 800 grams/1 lb12oz )
4 cups chicken stock ( use a gf stock to make this recipe gluten-free suitable )
5 cups water
2 cups split peas , rinsed and drained
Pea and ham soup is a classic comfort food that has been enjoyed for generations. Although it originated in Europe, it has since become popular all around the world, particularly during the colder months when a warm bowl of soup can be comforting and nourishing. This recipe uses a pressure cooker to expedite the cooking time, making it a quick and easy meal to whip up on busy days. Instructions

1.Heat the olive oil in the pressure cooker on sauté mode.
2.Add onions, carrots, celery, turnip, garlic, bay leaves, and thyme. Cook for 10 minutes until vegetables have softened.
3.Add the ham hock and pour in chicken stock and water.
4.Add the split peas and stir well.
5.Close the lid and turn on Manual mode for 25 minutes.
6.Once done, allow the pressure to release naturally for about 10 minutes, then release any remaining pressure and open the lid.
7.Remove the bay leaves, thyme sprigs, and ham hock from the soup. Discard any skin or bones from the ham hock.
8.Use a hand blender to puree the soup until smooth.
9.Taste and add salt and pepper as needed.
10.Serve hot and enjoy!
