Ingredients

1 lb extra lean ground beef or 1 lb ground sirloin
1 onion , finely chopped
3 garlic cloves , finely minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
salt
2 1/2 cups cold water
1 can sliced mushrooms
1 bouillon cube
6 tablespoons white flour
red wine ( optional ) or beer ( optional )

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°F.
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, half of the chopped onions, half of the minced garlic, and black pepper. Mix well with hands.
3.Form the beef mixture into 6 oval-shaped patties.
4.Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil.
5.Once hot, add the patties to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned.
6.Remove the patties from the skillet and place them in a baking dish.
7.In the same skillet, add the remaining onions and garlic and cook until softened.
8.Add the sliced mushrooms and cook for one minute.
9.Add the bouillon cube and water to the skillet and stir until the cube has dissolved.
10.In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and an additional 1/2 cup of water until smooth. Add this mixture to the skillet and stir until the sauce thickens.
11.If desired, add red wine or beer to the sauce and stir.
12.Pour the sauce over the beef patties in the baking dish.
13.Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
14.Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
15.Serve hot and enjoy!
