6 granny smith apples ( or other cooking apples )
2 cups water
1/2 cup calvados
1/4 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick ( small )
1/4 cup slivered almonds ( toasted )

Instructions

1.In a large saucepan, combine the water, calvados, sugar, and cinnamon stick.

4.Add the apples to the saucepan and reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover the saucepan and cook for 15-20 minutes or until the apples are fork-tender and have absorbed the flavors of the calvados.
5.Remove from the heat and transfer the apples and poaching liquid to a heat-proof dish. Remove the cinnamon stick.
6.Chill the apples and poaching liquid in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
7.Before serving, remove the poaching liquid from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature. Spoon the poaching liquid over the apples and sprinkle with toasted slivered almonds.
