8 ounces finely chopped pistachio nuts
8 ounces finely chopped hazelnuts

2 cups unsalted butter , melted
1 1/2 packages frozen phyllo pastry , thawed
1/4 cup whole cloves ( optional )
3 cups white sugar
2 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
Pistachio Hazelnut Baklava is a classic Mediterranean dessert that originated in the Ottoman Empire. It is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of paper-thin phyllo dough filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with a honey syrup. This recipe uses pistachio nuts and hazelnuts to create a delicious and crunchy filling that is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 356°F (180°C).
2.In a bowl, combine the chopped pistachio nuts, chopped hazelnuts, 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves, and 1/2 cup of white sugar and mix well.
3.Brush a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter.
4.Layer the thawed phyllo dough in the dish, using 8-10 sheets and brushing each layer with melted butter.
5.Spread the nut mixture evenly over the top layer of phyllo dough.
6.Add another 8-10 layers of phyllo dough, again brushing each layer with melted butter.
7.Cut the baklava into diamond-shaped pieces, making sure to cut all the way through the layers of phyllo dough.
8.If using, insert a whole clove into the center of each diamond-shaped piece.
9.Bake the baklava for 25-30 minutes or until it is golden brown.
10.While the baklava is baking, combine the remaining 3 cups of white sugar, 2 1/2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves in a saucepan. Stir to combine.
11.Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 20 minutes.
12.Remove the baklava from the oven and pour the warm syrup over the hot baklava.
13.Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
