Ingredients

1 cup milk
2 packages yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
3 eggs , beaten
1 tablespoon salt
1 cup water
1 cup water
3 cups flour
6 tablespoons shortening ( heaping )
4 cups flour
2 lbs chuck , chopped
2 medium onions , chopped
2 tablespoons butter
1 clove garlic , chopped
1 large head of cabbage , chopped
to taste salt and pepper
Piroshki are a traditional Russian hand pie that are perfect as an appetizer or snack. Instructions

1.Heat milk until warm
2.In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm milk
3.Add beaten eggs, salt, and water to the bowl
4.Gradually stir in 3 cups of flour and mix until smooth
5.Melt the shortening and stir in
6.Stir in the remaining flour until the dough is firm
7.Cover and let rise for 1 hour
8.In a separate pan, sauté the chopped beef, onions, butter, and garlic until brown
9.Add cabbage and salt and pepper to taste
10.Let the mixture cool
11.Preheat the oven to 400°F
12.Roll out the dough and cut into 5-inch rounds
13.Place a spoonful of filling on one side of each round
14.Fold the other side over the filling and crimp edge with a fork
15.Place on a greased baking sheet
16.Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown
