Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs meat or 1 1/2 lbs poultry , chopped into 1 inch cubes
1 large onion , finely chopped
8 garlic cloves , finely chopped
1 ounce fresh ginger , finely chopped
3 tablespoons ghee or 3 tablespoons oil
14 ounces canned tomatoes
1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
1 tablespoon tomato puree
12 dried chilies ( birdseye work well ) or 12 fresh chili peppers ( birdseye work well )
1 teaspoon cumin , ground
1 teaspoon coriander , ground
3 teaspoons chili powder ( dried , ground chiles such as cayenne )
1 teaspoon dried fenugreek leaves ( optional )
1 teaspoon garam masala
Phall curry originates from the UK and is known to be one of the hottest curries in the world, even hotter than a traditional Vindaloo. The chili peppers used in this recipe contribute to the intense heat and flavor of the dish, making it a favorite among spice-loving foodies. Though it may be too spicy for some, those with a high tolerance for heat will enjoy the unique taste of Phall curry which can be made with any type of meat or poultry. It is generally served with naan bread or rice.

Instructions

1.Heat the pan with ghee or oil and add the chopped onion, garlic and ginger.
2.Add canned tomatoes, tomato ketchup, tomato puree, dried chilies, cumin, coriander, chili powder, dried fenugreek leaves (if using) and garam masala and stir the mixture.
3.Add the meat/poultry and cook for 10 minutes on high heat.
4.Lower the heat and let it simmer for 2-3 hours.
5.Serve hot with naan bread or rice.
