Ingredients

1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
6 tablespoons unsalted butter , diced
3 tablespoons sugar , plus
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 -3 tablespoons heavy cream or 2 -3 tablespoons creme fraiche , more as needed
Petit Beurre is French for 'little butter' and is one of the most common biscuits across France. It is a type of shortbread cookie that is very versatile because it can be eaten by itself, or in combination with hot drinks and snacks. The biscuits' flaky texture is due to the layered construction achieved using butter and flour and this flakiness gives a unique mouthfeel that can be enjoyed during coffee time.

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Mix until everything is evenly distributed.
3.Add butter diced into small pieces and using your hands quickly mix the ingredients together to form a crumb-like texture.
4.Add 2-3 spoonful of heavy cream or creme fraiche in the mixture and mix until it forms a dough.
5.Place the dough on a floured work surface and flatten it out into a rectangle. Using a rolling pin roll it out to around 1/4 inch thickness.
6.Use a cookie cutter to cut out the dough into your preferred shape.
7.Place the cookies on a parchment paper on a baking tray and bake for 10-12 minutes until they turn golden brown around the edges.
8.Once they are baked remove the tray from the oven and let them cool down on the tray for a few minutes, then cool them completely on a wire rack.

PROS

These biscuits are quick to make and have a melt-in-the-mouth buttery flavor that goes with any kind of coffee or tea at any time of day.

CONS

These cookies are high in calorie because of the presence of sugar and butter.

Excessive consumption should be avoided.
