Ingredients

1 cup split Bengal gram ( chana dal )
water as needed
3 green chile peppers
salt to taste
1/4 cup cooking oil
1 teaspoon skinned split black lentils ( urad dal )
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
4 dried red chile peppers , broken into pieces
2 sprigs fresh curry leaves
1 pinch asafoetida powder
1 cup chopped onion
2 cups chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Patholi is a Konkani delicacy that is prepared on festivals and special occasions. It is made of chana dal, which is soaked, ground, and cooked with spices. The filling is wrapped in turmeric leaves and then steamed until cooked. It is often served with chutney or a coconut-based gravy. Instructions

1.Wash chana dal and soak in water for 2-3 hours.
2.Grind the dal with green chilies and salt to a coarse paste with little water.
3.In a pan, heat oil and add urad dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and red chili when the oil is hot and the mustard seed sizzles, add curry leaves and asafoetida. Mix the onion and the cooked dal along with cilantro and cayenne pepper in the oil. Mix and cook for five minutes. Wrapping Method: Take the turmeric leaves and remove the stem,
4.cut it from the middle.
5.Stuff the paste carefully in the middle of the turmeric leaf.
6.Bring the other end of the leaf over it and press the edges with your palm.
7.Steam for 10 minutes. Serve hot with chutney.
