1 large onion , chopped
2 cloves garlic , minced
1 green pepper , chopped
1 stalk celery , diced
1 tablespoon parsley
1 large tomatoes , chopped
1 piece hot pepper or 3 -5 drops Tabasco sauce
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 lb ground beef , seasoned with
salt
pepper
nutmeg
curry
1 bouillon cube
1 teaspoon cumin
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1/4 cup capers ( optional )
1/4 cup stuffed olives , chopped
1/2 cup raisins
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Pastechis are a traditional and popular dish in the Dutch Caribbean, with origins in the Antillean islands. They are typically served as an appetizer for parties, holidays, and special occasions. Pastechi pastry dough is used to enclose a savory beef filling that is spiced with warm flavors like nutmeg, curry, and cumin. Capers, olives, and raisins give the meat a unique texture and taste, while Worcestershire sauce brings depth and umami to the dish.

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2.In a large skillet, sauté the onions, garlic, green pepper, parsley, and celery in oil until tender.
3.Add the tomatoes, hot pepper or Tabasco sauce, seasoned ground beef, bouillon cube, cumin, and tomato paste. Stir until well combined and simmer for 5 minutes.
4.Add the capers, olives, raisins, and Worcestershire sauce and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
5.Roll out the dough and cut it into small circles.
6.Spoon about a tablespoon of the meat filling into the center of each circle.
7.Fold the dough over the filling, forming a half-moon shape, and press the edges together firmly to seal.
8.Place the pastechis on a baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
9.Serve warm and enjoy!
