This dish is great for a cold and cozy night in or for when you’re craving a comforting plate of pasta.

Instructions

.In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground Italian sausage, chopped hard-boiled egg, grated romano cheese, Italian breadcrumbs, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
.Lay the flank steak flat on a work surface. Spread the sausage mixture evenly over the steak, leaving a border of about ½ inch on all sides.
.Starting at one of the short ends, roll up the steak and sausage mixture, jelly-roll style. Secure with toothpicks or kitchen twine.
.Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the flank steak roll on all sides, then transfer to a plate and set aside.
.In the same skillet, cook the hot Italian sausage link until browned on all sides. Slice into pieces and set aside.
.Add the tomato puree, whole onion, minced garlic, and sugar to the skillet. Stir to combine.
.Return the flank steak roll and sliced sausage to the skillet. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally and turning the flank steak roll over halfway through.
.While the flank steak roll cooks, cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain.
.Remove the flank steak roll from the skillet and let rest for 5 minutes. Remove the toothpicks or twine and slice into pieces. Serve over the cooked pasta.
