Instructions

1.Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
2.Spray a non-stick skillet with cooking spray and place over medium heat. Cook pancetta for 5 minutes or until crispy. Add onion, garlic, pepper, salt, and Italian seasoning and cook for 3 minutes or until onion is tender. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
3.Combine the pancetta mixture and ground round in a large bowl. Divide mixture into 8 equal portions and shape into 4-inch patties. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of shredded cheese onto 4 of the patties and top with the remaining patties, pressing the edges together to seal.
4.Combine the mayonnaise and pesto sauce in a small bowl. Place the burgers on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until cooked through. Place the buns on the grill and toast for 1-2 minutes, or until slightly browned. Spread the pesto mayonnaise onto the buns and place the burgers inside.

PROS

Juicy, delicious burgers with crispy pancetta and melted cheese.

The pesto mayonnaise adds a burst of fresh flavor to this classic dish.

CONS

Fewer ingredients allow less opportunity for different flavors.

The high-calorie count might not make it ideal for people on a low-fat diet.

HEALTH & BENEFITS

While this is not the healthiest meal, it still has some positive aspects; for example, the burger patties themselves are relatively free carb and high in protein, which keeps you full for longer.
The pancetta, a type of Italian unsmoked bacon, is a good source of protein, and may even help with weight management.
The Swiss cheese used in the recipe is rich in Vitamin K2 and calcium, and may even lower the risk of heart disease.
