Oma's Country Green Beans with Bacon & Onion is a classic Southern dish that's been passed down through generations. It's simple to make with pantry ingredients and farm-fresh green beans. The combination of bacon, onion, and green beans were born out of necessity, but the taste has stood the test of time. The smoky bacon flavor paired with the savory onions and tender-crisp green beans create a perfect side dish to any Southern-style meal. It's a comfort dish straight from the heart of the South, provided by Oma to her family and friends.

Instructions

1.In a large pan, cook the diced bacon over medium heat until crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon from the pan and set it aside on a paper towel.
2.Add chopped onions to the pan and cook over medium heat until soft and translucent.
3.Add in the 2 cans of reserved liquid, and 2 cans of cut green beans to the onion mixture and give it a good stir.
4.In a separate bowl, mix together flour, lemon zest, salt, black pepper, and half of the finely chopped parsley.
5.Add the flour mixture to the green bean mixture and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce thickens up and the green beans are tender.
6.Add in the cooked bacon and the remaining chopped parsley and give it a final stir. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to taste before serving.
