Ingredients

1 cake compressed fresh yeast
1 cup lukewarm milk
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 egg
3/4 cup dried currants
3/4 cup raisins
1 Granny Smith apple - peeled , cored and finely chopped
1 quart vegetable oil for deep-frying
1 cup confectioners ' sugar for dusting

Instructions

4.Heat the oil in a deep-fryer or large heavy skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
5.Using two spoons, shape the dough into balls and drop them into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, turning once. Drain on paper towels.
6.Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving.
