Ingredients

1/3 cup flour

5 cups water ( not broth ! )
2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons Mexican oregano , crushed
1/4 teaspoon finely ground black pepper
1 small bay leaf
1 pinch ground cinnamon
1 pinch ground cloves

Instructions

1.Heat corn oil in a skillet over medium heat.
2.Add chopped onions and garlic to the skillet, cook until softened.
3.Add flour and mix well with the onions and garlic.
4.Add pureed tomatoes, pureed fresh jalapeno pepper, and water. Stir well.
5.Add salt, Mexican oregano, black pepper, bay leaf, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves to the skillet. Stir to combine.
6.Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.
7.Reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 30 minutes.
8.Remove the bay leaf from the skillet and discard.
9.Remove the skillet from heat and let cool.
10.Once cooled, use a blender or immersion blender to puree the sauce until smooth.
