Cake :
2 cups white sugar

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
2.In a large mixing bowl, blend together the white sugar, all-purpose flour and salt. Set aside.
3.In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, vegetable shortening, margarine, and unsweetened cocoa powder, stirring until smooth. Bring to a boil, then pour over the sugar mixture and mix until well blended.
4.Dissolve the baking soda in the buttermilk and add to the mixing bowl along with the beaten eggs and vanilla extract. Mix well.
5.Pour the batter into a greased 15x10 inch baking pan.
6.Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
7.While the cake is baking, prepare the icing. In a mixing bowl, sift together the confectioners' sugar and unsweetened cocoa powder. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter and milk, stirring until melted. Gradually stir in the sugar mixture until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract and chopped pecans.
