Ingredients

3 large onions , chopped
7 pounds beef short ribs , or more to taste
salt and ground black pepper to taste
3 cups water
2 cans pineapple chunks in juice , undrained
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
7 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
5 tablespoons ketchup
4 cloves garlic , minced , or more to taste
1 tablespoon dried sage
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
Not-Barbecued Short Ribs are an easy and delicious dish to prepare any day of the week, especially if you are hosting a large family meal. They aren't barbecued in the traditional sense, but they're still rich in the smoky, savory flavors of true barbecue. The cooking process is easy and the flavor is so satisfying, you won't believe it took so little work. You will want to add this recipe to your regular rotation.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2.Spread chopped onion in the bottom of a large baking pan.
3.Season short ribs with salt and black pepper; arrange on top of onions in the pan.
4.Mix water, pineapple with juice, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic, sage, thyme, and dry mustard together in a bowl; pour over short ribs.
5.Cover pan with aluminum foil.
6.Bake in the preheated oven for 3 hours.
7.Remove aluminum foil and continue to bake until meat is tender and falling off the bone, about 30 minutes more. Skim fat from the top of the liquid and discard. Serve.
