Ingredients

3 lbs ground beef
3 cans crushed tomatoes with puree
1 large sweet onion
5 celery ribs
1 lb carrot
5 big garlic cloves
2/3 cup virgin olive oil
2 beef bouillon cubes
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup fresh basil or 3 tablespoons dried basil
1 tablespoon dried oregano
5 teaspoons sugar ( or as needed depending on the acidity of the tomatoes )
1 can tomato paste ( optional )

Instructions

1.In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions, celery, and carrots and sauté until onions are translucent, stirring occasionally
2.Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon and cook it stirring occasionally until browned.
3.Add garlic, oregano, basil, pepper and bouillon cubes. Cook it for about 2 minutes or until fragrant, stirring occasionally
4.Add the crushed tomatoes and sugar. Mix well.
5.Bring the sauce to a boil, reduce heat to low, and let simmer for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
6.If the sauce is too acidic, add more sugar to taste. Add tomato paste only if needed, to thicken the sauce according to your liking.
