Ingredients

3 cups basmati rice
2 tablespoons ghee
3 shallots
2 garlic cloves
1/2 inch ginger
1/2 inch cinnamon stick
1 piece star anise
3 pieces cloves
1/4 cup evaporated milk
salt
Nasi Minyak is a traditional Malaysian rice dish that is also popular in Indonesia and Singapore. The dish gets its name from the addition of ghee or clarified butter, which gives the rice a rich and aromatic flavor. Instructions

1.Rinse the basmati rice in water to remove any dirt and debris. Soak the rice with fresh water for 30 minutes and then drain the water.
2.Thinly slice the shallots, garlic cloves and ginger.
3.Heat ghee in a large pot and add the sliced shallots, garlic and ginger.
4.Fry until the onions become translucent and add the cinnamon stick, star anise and cloves.
5.Add the drained rice to the pot and stir for 1-2 minutes.
6.Add 4 1/2 cups of water to the rice and bring to a boil.
7.Reduce the heat and add evaporated milk. Mix well and let cook for 15-20 minutes.
8.Once the rice has absorbed all the liquid, remove from heat and let it sit for 10 minutes before fluffing it with a fork.
