Ingredients

1 large heads of cabbage ( very large ) or 2 medium heads of cabbage
1 1/2 lbs ground beef ( I use 80 % lean , it has better flavor )
4 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups raw rice ( best to cook rice as beef and cabbage are cooking )
salt & pepper
3 cans condensed tomato soup
2 cans diced tomatoes ( any variety ) or ( 28 ounce ) cans crushed tomatoes ( any variety )
10 slices bacon ( approx )
1 package sauerkraut ( in glass or plastic package ) ( optional )
My Family's Stuffed Cabbage Rolls is a traditional Eastern European dish that has been passed down in my family for generations. It is a hearty and filling dish that is perfect for chilly evenings and comfort food cravings. The tender cabbage leaves are filled with a savory mix of ground beef and rice, then simmered in a flavorful tomato-based sauce. The bacon adds a smoky flavor to the dish, while the sauerkraut adds a tangy note. This dish is a crowd-pleaser and is often served at family gatherings and celebrations.

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Core the cabbage heads and carefully remove the leaves without tearing. Blanch the leaves in the boiling water for 5-7 minutes or until softened. Drain and set aside.
3.In a bowl, mix the ground beef, butter, cooked rice, salt and pepper together.
4.Lay a cabbage leaf on a work surface, then spoon a portion of the beef mixture onto the leaf. Roll the leaf around the beef, folding in the sides, and place seam side down in a large roasting pan.
5.Repeat with the remaining cabbage and filling until all the cabbage leaves are used up.
6.Mix the condensed tomato soup, diced tomatoes, and sauerkraut together, then pour over the cabbage rolls.
7.Place bacon slices on top of the sauce, cover the roasting pan with foil, then bake for 1 hour.
8.Remove the foil and continue to bake for an additional 30-40 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the sauce is bubbling. Serve hot.
