Ingredients

5 medium potatoes
1 small onion , finely chopped
1 -2 tablespoon butter
3 -4 garlic cloves , pressed
1 1/2 tablespoons cumin
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper ( to taste )
1 teaspoon turmeric ( optional )
1/4 cup cilantro , chopped
2 eggs , beaten
Morrocan Potato Cakes or Maakouda Batata are a popular and traditional Moroccan snack or side dish made with potatoes, spices, herbs, and eggs. These tasty potato cakes are typically served hot as a snack with some harissa sauce or as a side dish. They're commonly served at weddings, parties, and other special events. Maakouda Batata originated from Jewish Moroccan cuisine and has since been adopted by the broader Moroccan population.

Instructions

1.Boil the potatoes until fully cooked.
2.Mash the potatoes and add butter while they're still hot.
3.Add the chopped onion, pressed garlic, cumin, salt, pepper, turmeric (optional), and chopped cilantro, and mix well.
4.Shape the mixture into small patties(around 2 inch) disks.
5.Dip each patty in beaten eggs.
6.Fry each patty on both sides until golden brown.
