Ingredients

3 cups milk , lukewarm
1/2 fresh yeast cake , softened in
1/4 cup water
6 -8 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 lb raisins , cut
1/2 lb currants
1/4 lb candied citron peel , chopped
1/2 cup almonds , sliced

Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk and softened yeast.
2.Add in 2 cups of flour and the salt, mix well and let stand for 10 minutes.
3.In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar together.
4.Combine the creamed mixture to the yeast mixture.
5.Gradually add the remaining flour to make a soft dough.
6.Mix in the raisins, currants, candied citron peel, and sliced almonds.
7.Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
8.Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth, let rise in a warm place for about an hour or until it has doubled in size.
9.Punch the dough down and knead for a few more minutes.
10.Form the dough into a round loaf and place in a greased 9 inch springform pan.
11.Cover with a damp cloth and let rise for another hour.
12.Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 60-70 minutes or until golden brown.
