Ingredients

2 1/3 cups melted shortening
5 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 ounce anise extract
1 1/4 cups white sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
72 blanched almonds

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 350F.
2.In a bowl, mix the melted shortening, white sugar, anise extract and cinnamon. Mix well until it is a smooth paste.
3.Slowly add the flour and combine until the dough is uniform.
4.Spread some flour over a working surface and knead the dough until it is uniform.
5.Roll out the dough and shape it into circles about 2cm thick.
6.Place the cookies onto a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper.
7.In the center of each cookie, push an almond into the dough.
8.Bake for 15 minutes until they become lightly golden.
9.Once removed from the oven, let the cookies cool down for 5 to 10 mins before moving them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
