Ingredients

1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 lb bulk Italian sausage
1 large onion , chopped
3 garlic cloves , minced
1 can crushed tomatoes , undrained
1 can tomato paste
1 1/2 cups water or 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 cup salsa
1 teaspoon sugar ( optional ... I do n't use )
1 -2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon fennel seed
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
9 lasagna noodles
1 carton ricotta cheese
1 egg , beaten
1/4 cup fresh parsley , chopped
salt and pepper , to taste
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F.

5.Season with salt and pepper.

7.In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, parsley, salt, and pepper.
8.Spread a layer of meat sauce in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
9.Arrange 3 lasagna noodles on top.
10.Spread 1/3 of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles.
11.Sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese over the top.
12.Repeat layers with meat sauce, noodles, cheese mixture, and cheeses.
13.Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
14.Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes or until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
15.Allow the lasagna to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
