Ingredients

6 -8 links mild Italian sausage ( for those in Australia , I have found Coles Tuscan sausages are the best for this recipe )
1 large onion , chopped finely
4 small garlic cloves , crushed
3 cans tomato puree
1 can crushed tomatoes
1 can diced tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 teaspoons sugar
400 g lean ground beef
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
dried oregano , to taste
dried basil , to taste
dried parsley , to taste
salt , to taste
pepper , to taste
Mom's Irish-American Spaghetti Sauce is a delicious twist on the classic Italian dish. This recipe adds in the flavors of sausage and meatballs for a hearty and filling meal. Instructions

1.In a large pot, heat up a tablespoon of olive oil and cook the sausages until browned on all sides.
2.Remove the sausages from the pot and set aside.
3.Add the onions and garlic to the pot and sauté until softened.
4.Add the tomato puree, crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and sugar to the pot and stir to combine.
5.Form the ground beef into meatballs and add them to the pot.
6.Add the sausages back into the pot.
7.Season with oregano, basil, parsley, salt, and pepper.
8.Bring to a boil then reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1-3 hours, stirring occasionally.
