Ingredients

1 beef brisket , scored with a knife on both sides

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, mix together cayenne pepper, coarse salt and fresh ground black pepper.
2.Season both sides of the beef brisket with the spice mixture.

4.In a bowl, mix together maple syrup, molasses, light brown sugar, tomato paste, orange juice, garlic cloves, gingerroot slices and orange peel slices.
5.Add the mixture to the crock pot. Put the brisket on the top.
6.Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
7.Preheat the broiler to high. Remove the brisket from the crock pot with tongs and put it on a baking sheet.
8.Skim off any excess fat from the remaining liquid in the crock pot and strain the solids. Boil the liquid in a saucepan over medium-high heat for 15 minutes or until thickened.
9.Brush the brisket with the sauce and broil for 3-5 minutes or until glazed.
10.Slice the brisket and pour the remaining sauce on top. Enjoy!
