Ingredients

2 slices of home-made style bread , trimmed of crust and torn into small pieces
60 ml ouzo ( or substitute another anise flavoured liqueur )
90 ml olive oil
125 ml finely chopped onions
450 g lean ground beef or 450 g use lamb
1 egg
1 tablespoon finely chopped mint leaves or 5 ml dried mint
1 garlic clove
2 ml dried oregano
salt & freshly ground black pepper
1 cup all-purpose flour
Mint & Ouzo Flavoured Meatballs are a delicious and unique take on classic meatballs. The use of ouzo, a Greek anise flavoured liqueur, gives the dish a unique flavor that pairs perfectly with the refreshing taste of mint. Instructions

1.Soak the bread slices in a bowl with ouzo for 2 minutes.
2.In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over moderate heat. Add the finely chopped onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent, for about 5 minutes.
3.Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine the ground beef or lamb, egg, bread (that has soaked up all the ouzo), chopped garlic, dried oregano, finely chopped mint leaves, salt & freshly ground pepper.
4.Using your hands, form meatballs into 2 inch pieces.
5.Roll the meatballs in flour to coat.
6.In the same skillet used to cook the onions, add the remaining olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the meatballs and cook until they are browned evenly on all sides, for about 10-15 minutes.
7.Reduce heat and continue cooking for another 10-15 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
8.Serve and enjoy!
