Milk Tart (Melk Tert) is a traditional South African dessert that originated from Dutch settlers. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, egg, sugar, butter (4oz), salt, and baking powder until a cohesive dough forms. Roll out dough and place in a buttered 9-inch (23 cm) pie dish. Set aside.
3.In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat milk (4.5 cups) and butter (1 tbsp) over medium heat until just simmering.
4.In a separate bowl, whisk together cornstarch and eggs until smooth. Add in vanilla essence, salt, sugar, and flour, whisking until a thick batter forms.
5.Slowly pour the batter into the hot milk mixture, whisking constantly until the custard thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
6.Pour the custard filling into the prepared pie crust. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and crust is golden brown. Allow to cool before serving.
