12 unsalted saltine crackers
1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon minced onion

1 lb lean ground beef
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 clove garlic , minced
1/4 cup onion , finely chopped
1/4 cup celery , finely chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 can beef broth
1 can water
3/4 cup tomato sauce
pepper , to taste
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
Mexicali Meatballs are a twist on traditional meatballs, with a spicy and flavorful sauce inspired by Mexican cuisine. The meatballs are made with lean ground beef and flavored with chili powder and red pepper flakes, giving them a little kick. Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2.In a large bowl, combine the cracker crumbs, salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons of chili powder, and the red pepper flakes. Mix well.
3.Add the milk, beaten egg, minced onion, and minced green pepper to the cracker mixture; mix well.
4.Add the ground beef and mix well with clean hands.
5.Shape the mixture into meatballs about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
6.In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Cook the meatballs in batches until browned on all sides.
7.Remove the meatballs from the skillet and place them in a large baking dish.
8.In the same skillet, heat 1 more tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the garlic, onion, and celery and sauté until tender.
9.Add the flour and stir until well combined.
10.Slowly add the beef broth, water, and tomato sauce; stir until well combined.
11.Add the remaining chili powder and ground cumin.
12.Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
13.Pour the sauce over the meatballs in the baking dish.
14.Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
