Ingredients

50 g white rice
50 g green gram ( split )
1 cup chopped mixed herbs ( coriander leaves , mint leaves , celery , parsley and basil )
1 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon ginger , grated
1 teaspoon garlic , chopped
1 teaspoon oatmeal
2 teaspoons wheat germ
1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin seed
1/4 teaspoon asafoetida powder
1 dried bay leaf
salt , to taste
2 teaspoons vegetable oil , for tempering
4 -6 curry leaves

Instructions

1.Rinse the rice and green gram thoroughly and soak them in water for about 30 minutes.
2.Heat a pressure cooker over medium heat and add vegetable oil. Once hot, add the cumin seeds and bay leaf and sauté for a few seconds.
3.Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Add ginger and garlic and sauté for another minute.
4.Drain the rice and green gram and add it to the pressure cooker. Add salt, red chili powder, oatmeal, asafoetida powder and half of the mixed herbs. Mix everything well.
5.Add enough water to cover the rice and gram and stir. Close the pressure cooker and let it cook on high flame till 2-3 whistles.
6.Once the pressure releases naturally, open the cooker and garnish with remaining mixed herbs and curry leaves.
