5 cups chopped apples , about 6 apples
3 cups chopped onions , about 3 onions
3 cups cider vinegar
1 cup raisins ( golden or dark 250 mL )
5 garlic cloves , minced
2 teaspoons turmeric
1 1/2 teaspoons hot red pepper flakes
4 teaspoons ground ginger
1 1/2 lbs pitted dates

Instructions

1.Combine chopped apples, onions, cider vinegar and raisins in a large saucepan.

4.Simmer the mixture, uncovered, for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is thickened and apple pieces are translucent.

6.Cook for another 30 minutes, or until the mixture is thickened to your liking.
7.Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
8.Serve as a condiment to accompany a variety of dishes.
