King Cake is a traditional Mardi Gras dessert that originated in New Orleans. The cake is typically served from January 6th (Twelfth Night) until Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent begins. The cake is symbolic of the three kings who visited the baby Jesus on Epiphany, and it often contains a hidden plastic baby that is thought to bring luck and prosperity to whoever finds it in their slice. This version of the cake has a rich filling of brown sugar, cinnamon, pecans, and raisins, and it's drizzled with a simple powdered sugar icing. It's a festive and fun dessert that's perfect for Mardi Gras celebrations or any time you want to indulge in a sweet treat!

Instructions

.In a small saucepan, heat the milk until it just begins to boil, then remove from heat.
.Stir in the butter until melted and well-combined.
.In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let it stand for about 5 minutes.
.In a large bowl, combine the sugar, eggs, salt, and nutmeg. Add the milk mixture, then stir in 2 cups of the flour until well mixed. Add the yeast mixture followed by the remaining 3 1/2 cups of flour, stirring until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
.Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, then place it into a greased bowl and cover it with a towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 1/2 hours.
.Make the filling by combining the brown sugar, cinnamon, pecans, flour, raisins, and melted butter in a mixing bowl and mixing until well-combined.
.Roll the dough out into a large rectangle, then spread the filling mixture over the top. Roll the dough up lengthwise and place it into a greased Bundt cake pan. Let it rise until it doubles in size, about another hour.
.Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake the cake for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
.Mix together the confectioners' sugar and water to form a thin frosting. Drizzle it over the top of the cake, then slice and serve.
