Malaysian Pineapple Pastries, also known as Nastar, are a popular pastry that originated in Indonesia and Malaysia. They are often served during holidays and special occasions, and can be found in many bakeries and cafes throughout Southeast Asia. These pastries are sweet and savory, with a buttery crust and a pineapple filling that is sweet but not overly sugary. The pineapple filling is made from fresh pineapple and sugar, which is cooked until it turns into a thick, jam-like consistency. The pastries are then baked until golden brown, resulting in a delicious and satisfying treat.

Instructions

.Cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple, and then use a sharp knife to remove the outer skin and any remaining eyes.
.Chop the pineapple flesh into small pieces.
.In a large saucepan, combine the chopped pineapple, sugar, and water over medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until the pineapple has turned translucent and the liquid has been absorbed.
.In a large bowl, cream the butter. Add the flour, beaten egg yolks, vanilla, and cold water until the mixture forms a smooth dough.
.Roll the dough into a thin sheet and use a cookie cutter to cut out circles of about 3 inches in diameter.
.Place a small spoonful of the pineapple filling in each circle and fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape.
.Brush the top of each pastry with the beaten egg whites.
.Bake the pastries in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
