Malakoffs, also known as Swiss Fondue Fritters, are a popular Swiss snack or appetizer. They are made by combining bread and cheese with a few other ingredients, then deep-frying the mixture until crispy and golden brown. These fritters are traditionally served with white wine or kirsch, a cherry-flavored liquor. The fritters are perfect to enjoy as a snack with friends and family, or as an appetizer for a dinner party.

Instructions

1.Cut the crusts off of the white bread and tear the bread into small pieces.
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread pieces, grated gruyere cheese, flour, nutmeg, and chopped garlic.
3.In a separate bowl, whisk together the lightly beaten eggs, salt, and pepper. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and cheese mixture, stirring until well combined.
4.Stir in the dry white wine and kirsch.
5.Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Using a spoon, drop spoonfuls of the mixture into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on the outside and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes per side.
6.Remove the fritters from the pan and let them cool on a paper towel-lined plate. Serve warm.
