Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease muffin cups, or line with paper muffin liners.
2.In a medium bowl, combine flour and sugar. Cut in 1/4 cup of butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Beat in milk until smooth. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups, filling them 1/2 full.
3.In a small bowl, cream 2 tablespoons of butter and 3/4 cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the flour, nutmeg, and eggs. Stir in the sherry and ground almonds. Spoon filling over batter, filling cups 3/4 full.
4.Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown. Cool muffins in pan for 5 minutes before removing from cups.
