It's a perfect recipe to try out during the festive season, and a great addition to any holiday brunch or breakfast table. The bread is filling, delicious, and perfect when enjoyed with a hot cup of cocoa, coffee, or tea.

Instructions

.Start by mixing the yeast and warm water in a small bowl. Let this mixture rest for 5 minutes.
.Melt the butter, add milk and mix to incorporate.
.In a larger bowl, combine sugar, salt, nutmeg, and mace. Add eggs, lemon juice, and cognac. Mix until all ingredients are well combined.
.Stir in the yeast mixture and then add the flour one cup at a time, stirring constantly. Add currants, raisins, almonds, and citron in the halfway through.
.Knead the dough on a floured surface until it becomes soft, smooth, and elastic.
.Put the dough in a greased bowl and let it rest in a warm place until it doubles in size.
.Divide the dough in two, then shape each half into an oval loaf shape.
.Let the loaves rise once more for 30 more minutes.
.Bake the bread at 350 F for 1 hour, then brush both loaves with the melted butter. Let it cool down. Once cooled down, sprinkle the powdered sugar on top.
