1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
3 eggs
1 cup softened butter
1 cup pearl sugar
Liege Waffles (Belgian Pearl Sugar Waffles) are a traditional Belgian dish, often eaten for breakfast or as a snack. Unlike regular waffles, Liege waffles are made with Pearl Sugar, which caramelizes in the waffle iron and creates a crunchy, sweet crust on the outside of the waffle. The dough itself is made with yeast, which gives the waffles a chewy texture and a slightly sour taste. Served with a dusting of powdered sugar and some fresh fruit, these waffles are the perfect way to start your day off right.

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and let stand for 5 minutes or until bubbly.
2.In another large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and eggs, mixing well.
3.Incorporate the softened butter, working it in by hand or with a mixer. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
4.Mix in the pearl sugar to the dough and divide it into small balls. Flatten the balls a little and let them rest for at least 15 minutes.
5.Heat a waffle iron. Once hot, place one ball of dough onto the center of the waffle iron and close. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.
