Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
4 cups cabbage , chopped ( or more-I use the whole head of cabbage )
1 cup instant rice ( I use brown )
8 ounces tomato sauce
12 ounces tomatoes , chopped
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 small onion , diced
1 cup water
1/2 cup ketchup ( I sub more tomato sauce )
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Stuffed cabbage rolls, or golumpki, are a classic comfort food and traditional dish in Polish and Slovak cuisine. They are typically made by rolling seasoned beef, pork, or lamb into cabbage leaves and baking them in a rich tomato sauce. This lazy cook's version of stuffed cabbage rolls simplifies the traditional recipe by using ground beef and instant rice. This recipe will let you enjoy the comforting taste of stuffed cabbage rolls with much less effort.

Instructions

1.Preheat your oven to 350°F.
2.In a medium bowl, mix together the ground beef, rice, onion, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
3.Boil the chopped cabbage for 10-15 minutes, or until it is slightly tender but still firm to the touch. Drain and rinse with cold water to cool down.
4.In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, chopped tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and water.
5.Spread half of the tomato mixture in the bottom of a baking dish.
6.Roll up the ground beef mixture into small balls, and place them into the cooled cabbage leaves.
7.Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the baking dish.
8.Pour the remaining tomato mixture over the cabbage rolls, and spread the ketchup on top.
9.Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the aluminum foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cabbage rolls are cooked through.
