Ingredients

1/2 lb unsalted butter
1 1/2 lbs fresh lump crabmeat , picked over
1/2 cup diced onion
1/2 cup diced green pepper
1/2 cup diced celery
1 teaspoon minced garlic

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon ground mustard

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
16 eggs
4 1/4 pints milk ( U.S. pints � 68 fluid ounces )
30 slices white bread

Instructions

1.Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
2.Melt butter in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Saute onion, green pepper, celery, and garlic until tender. Remove from heat and stir in pepper, salt, thyme, Worcestershire sauce, ground mustard and Tabasco sauce.
3.In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
4.Spread slices of bread out on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 5-6 minutes, until they are lightly toasted and crisp.
5.Cut the hard edges off the bread and then cut each slice into 3 triangles.
6.Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Layer half of the bread triangles in the bottom of the dish.
7.Spoon half of the crab meat mixture over the bread and sprinkle with 1 cup of cheddar cheese. Repeat the layers.
8.Pour the egg and milk mixture over the top.
9.Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until golden and set.
