Ingredients

7 g active dry yeast
1/3 cup water , lukewarm
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons honey
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
180 g butter , cut in pieces
3/4 cup water , very hot
3 cups all-purpose flour
8 eggs , in their shells ( optional )
Kubaneh is a delicious and popular Yemeni bread that is typically served on the weekend. It's a slow-cooked bread that takes a lot of time to make, but the end result is worth it. Soft and buttery, with a hint of sweetness, this bread literally melts in your mouth. It's usually served with tahini, olive oil, or any sauce of your choice and often eaten with hard-boiled eggs, tomato sauce, or hummus.

Instructions

1.In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and stir in sugar and honey. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
2.Add salt, butter, and hot water. Stir until the butter has melted.
3.Gradually add flour and stir until a ball of dough forms.
4.Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until it becomes smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
5.Grease a cast-iron or ovenproof pot with butter. Place the dough in the pot and cover with a clean kitchen towel.
6.Let the dough rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
7.Preheat oven at 350°F (175°C).
8.Grease the bottom and sides of the pot with additional butter.
9.Bake the dough for 2 hours until it's golden brown.
10.Serve hot, tear into pieces and dip in tahini, olive oil or any sauce of your choice.

It’s perfect to be enjoyed as breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

CONS

It takes a long time to prepare and bake.
You will need to invest two hours in the baking alone.
