Ingredients

1 large onion , chopped
3 -4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 lbs ground lamb
1 teaspoon dried lime powder ( available at Indian groceries )
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon allspice
salt and pepper
3 -4 tablespoons tomato paste
7 ounces dried apricots , soaked in water for 1/2 hr . ( use the tart , not sweetened variety )
3 -4 tablespoons currants or 3 -4 tablespoons raisins
1 lemon , juice of
1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

1.In a pan, heat oil and sauté onions until golden brown.
2.In a mixing bowl, combine ground lamb, dried lime powder, ground cloves, allspice, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
3.Add the onions to the lamb mixture and combine well. Now, with your hands, form the mixture into meatballs.
4.In the same pan, cook the meatballs until browned on all sides. Remove from pan.
5.In the same pan, add tomato paste, soaked dried apricots, currants or raisins, lemon juice, and sugar. Stir well and bring to a boil.
6.Add the meatballs back to the pan, cover, and let simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the meatballs are fully cooked and the sauce has thickened.
7.Serve hot with couscous or rice.
