lukewarm milk ( and water mixed , enough to make a soft dough as for bread )
oil ( for deep frying )
syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup boiling water
1 cinnamon stick ( optional )
1/2 cup flaked coconut ( or more )

Instructions

1.In a large bowl, mix together the cake flour, salt, sugar, dried yeast, dried orange peel (optional), cinnamon, ground ginger, mixed spice, and ground cardamom.
2.Gradually add in the egg and butter or margarine, mixing until the dough becomes crumbly.
3.Slowly add the lukewarm milk and water mixture, stirring until the dough forms a soft texture like bread dough.
4.Knead the dough thoroughly until it forms a smooth texture, and let it rise for 30 minutes in a warm area.
5.Roll out the dough into long ½ inch thick ropes, and cut the ropes into small diamond shapes.
6.Heat up a pot of oil and fry the dough diamonds until they are golden brown and crisp.
7.In a separate pot, mix the sugar, boiling water, and cinnamon stick (optional) to create the syrup.
8.Once the diamonds have cooled, dip them in the syrup and coat them well on all sides.
9.Roll the syrup-coated diamonds in the flaked coconut and let them dry completely.
