Ingredients

4 cups sauerkraut
1 teaspoon caraway seed
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2/3 cup milk

Instructions

1.In a large pot, rinse and drain sauerkraut in cold water.
2.Add caraway seed, sugar and enough water to the pot until everything is covered. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to medium-low. Let it simmer for an hour until the sauerkraut is tender.
3.In a medium bowl, whisk flour, sugar, cream of tartar, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
4.In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then add the milk. Mix well.
5.Add the liquid to the dry mixture. Stir until everything comes together.
6.Take the sauerkraut pot off the heat and transfer sauerkraut to a side dish.
7.Divide your dumpling dough into six equal portions and start rolling them into balls.
8.Put the dumplings into the pot with the sauerkraut and let them simmer for 20 minutes with a closed lid.
9.Serve 2 dumplings and a spoonful of sauerkraut on individual plates. Enjoy!
