Ingredients

3 cups plain flour
1/2 cup caster sugar
250 g unsalted butter
3 teaspoons rose water
1/4 cup water
250 g pitted dates
2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
2.In a bowl, sift flour and caster sugar. Add softened butter and mix all ingredients together until you obtain a crumbly mixture.
3.Mix the warm water and rose water together and add it to the crumbles. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and consistent.
4.Divide the dough into small balls.
5.Roll each ball flat. In the center of each, place 1 heaped tablespoon of pitted dates mixed with butter and make them into elongated shape or triangles as desired.
6.Pinch or fold the edges to form a seal and then shape into crescents or diamonds.
7.Place the klaicha on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until golden brown.
8.Leave them to cool. Sprinkle powdered sugar (optional) before serving.
