Ingredients

2 cups warm water , divided
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast ( or use two .25-ounce packages yeast )
1 teaspoon sugar
5 1/2 - 6 1/2 cups bread flour ( more if needed )
3 teaspoons salt
3 teaspoons sugar
5 tablespoons vegetable oil ( or use Canola oil , DO NOT substitute butter or shortening for the oil it will affect the texture )
French bread-baguette is a staple in French cuisine, often served alongside dishes like coq au vin or beef bourguignon. Instructions

1.In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 1 cup of warm water, 1 tablespoon of active dry yeast, 1 teaspoon of sugar and let sit until bubbly.
2.Add in 3 cups of bread flour, 3 teaspoons of salt, 3 teaspoons of sugar, 5 tablespoons of vegetable oil and the remaining 1 cup of warm water. Beat with the dough hook on low speed until smooth and elastic.
3.Gradually add in more bread flour until the dough forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
4.Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
5.Punch the dough down and divide into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a long thin baguette shape.
6.Place the baguettes on a greased and floured baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
7.Preheat the oven to 375°F. Make diagonal cuts across the tops of the baguettes with a sharp knife.
8.Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
