Ingredients

3 tablespoons oil
1 large onion , finaly chopped
1 -2 tablespoon chopped fresh garlic ( or to taste )
1 large celery rib , chopped ( optional )
1 green bell pepper , chopped
1 -2 finely chopped jalapeno ( seeds removed ) ( optional )
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese ( optional )
6 -8 slices cooked bacon ( diced )
1 can baked beans in tomato sauce ( or use a 14-ounce can )
1 can kidney beans , rinsed and drained
3/4 - 1 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 -2 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
salt and black pepper ( to taste , I use seasoned salt )
2 -3 cups grated cheddar cheese ( optional ) or 2 -3 cups mozzarella cheese ( optional )

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2.In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add onions, garlic, celery, green bell pepper, and jalapeno (if using) and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3.Add lean ground beef and cook for 10 to 12 minutes or until no longer pink, breaking up any large chunks with a wooden spoon while stirring.
4.Stir in beans, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, mustard, salt, and black pepper. Add grated parmesan cheese and diced bacon and mix well. Spoon the mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
5.Top with grated cheddar or mozzarella cheese (if using) and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until hot and bubbly. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
