Ingredients

3 lemons , organic
1 lime , organic
2 1/2 cups ouzo
1 3/4 ounces sugar
1/3 cup water
Kitrón is a traditional Greek liqueur that originates from the island of Naxos. Ouzo, a strong anise-flavored spirit, is the base ingredient of Kitrón. This spirit is combined with fresh lemon and lime peels, giving Kitrón its refreshing and zesty flavor. The sugar and water in the recipe help to counterbalance the strong taste of ouzo, resulting in a well-balanced drink that is perfect for sipping on a hot summer's day.

Instructions

1.Peel the lemons and lime, ensuring that none of the white pith is included. Cut the peels into thin strips.
2.In a large jar, combine the ouzo, sugar, and water. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.
3.Add the lemon and lime peels to the jar.
4.Cover the jar with a lid or plastic wrap and let it sit in a cool, dark place for at least 3 days, stirring occasionally.
5.Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve and discard the peels. Pour the finished Kitrón into bottles and store in a cool, dark place until ready to serve. Serve chilled.

PROS

Kitrón is a refreshing and zesty drink that is perfect for sipping on a hot summer’s day.
The combination of ouzo and citrus makes for a unique and delicious flavor.

CONS

Due to the high alcohol content of ouzo, this drink should be enjoyed in moderation.
It is also important to note that Kitrón is not suitable for individuals who cannot consume alcohol.

HEALTH & BENEFITS

While Kitrón is not necessarily a health food, lemons and limes are both packed with vitamin C. Vitamin C is known to boost the immune system and protect against diseases such as scurvy.
