Ingredients

3 cups unsifted flour
1/2 cup sour cream ( plus 2 tablespoons )
8 medium egg yolks
small lemon , rind of , grated ( yellow part only )
1/2 tablespoon sugar
1/2 lb butter ( or 1/4 lb butter + 1/4 lb margarine where you do n't use all the margarine )
1 lb walnuts , shelled , and ground fine
8 egg whites
1 lb confectioners ' sugar
1 small lemon , juice of ( about 2 tbsp )
Kiflies are crescent-shaped pastries that originated in Hungary. They are traditionally enjoyed as breakfast pastries or as a sweet snack with coffee or tea. The dough is made with sour cream and egg yolks, resulting in a flaky and buttery pastry that is then filled with a sweet walnut mixture and covered in a sugar glaze. Instructions

1.In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, 1/2 cup of sour cream, 8 medium egg yolks, grated lemon rind, and sugar until a dough is formed.
2.Roll the dough out onto a floured surface, and then cut it into 1-inch strips.
3.In a separate mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 lb of butter and the ground walnuts to create the filling.
4.Spread the filling onto each strip of dough, and then roll them up into a crescent shape.
5.Beat the 8 egg whites until they are stiff, and then slowly fold in the confectioners' sugar and lemon juice until well combined.
6.Brush each crescent with the remaining 2 tablespoons of sour cream, and then dip them into the egg white mixture.
7.Place the kiflies onto a baking sheet and bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
